Is Silk & Snow’s Organic Mattress Perfect For Combo Sleepers? (2025 Review)
Summary: Silk & Snow’s Organic Mattress is exactly the upgrade I needed to help me get the full night of sleep I’d been craving for so long. As a combination sleeper that shares a bed with my partner, I found this latex hybrid mattress nicely breathable and scent-free, with limited motion transfer. It provides the perfect balance of cushion and support for a refreshing night of sleep every single night!
Pros:
- I love that this mattress has no break-in period. From day one, I slept deeper than I have in years, plus my rampant neck and shoulder tension has naturally improved.
- The mattress is breathable, cooling, and comfy, even when sleeping with my partner, who runs warm. There’s also minimal motion transfer, making it really feel like I have the whole bed to myself. My partner agrees!
- Silk & Snow’s mattress feels balanced, offering the perfect amount of firmness and responsiveness for someone who sleeps mostly on their stomach and occasionally their back!
Cons:
- The medium-firm mattress is more on the firm side rather than right between plush and firm. Silk & Snow is transparent about this on their mattress firmness scale! If you’re a committed side sleeper, you should consider their plush option, while those who sleep on their backs and stomachs will enjoy the balance of the medium-firm mattress.
- The box and mattress itself are heavy, likely due to the layers of organic latex. Be sure to employ extra help when moving and setting up the mattress.
I’ve never thought too much about the mattresses I’ve slept on. Growing up, I slept on a little innerspring twin, alongside the super flat pillow I was a bit too attached to. As I got older, my mattress preferences became a bit more apparent — I typically enjoyed firmer ones as I was used to sleeping on my stomach — though I am now more acclimated to sleeping on my back and occasionally my side. I now consider myself a full-fledged combo sleeper!
Once I moved in with my partner and now-husband, I claimed my side of his 6-year-old hybrid mattress and I immediately noticed some big differences from my childhood twin. His side of the mattress had a significant dent, leaving my side of the mattress uncomfortably high. To my partner’s dissatisfaction, I found myself rolling and taking over the center of the mattress, causing us both to wake up multiple times throughout the night to readjust ourselves. Oops!
“Replacing our mattress would be a challenge: I sleep cool, while my partner sleeps warm, and our bodies never seem to adjust to the right temperature. We also both deal with neck and shoulder tension.”
Replacing our mattress would be a challenge: I sleep cool, while my partner sleeps warm, and our bodies never seem to adjust to the right temperature. We also both deal with neck and shoulder tension (who doesn’t?!) and while we were committed to our routine chiropractor appointments, daily stretches, and strengthening exercises, the tension would slightly ease, yet always return, without constant upkeep.
Soon, it became clear that the time for a mattress upgrade had finally come. We heavily considered a latex mattress as it is naturally supportive, responsive, and known to be breathable. When the opportunity came along to test out Silk & Snow’s latex hybrid mattress, we had to say yes! I couldn’t be more ecstatic to upgrade to a high-quality mattress that’s organic, too.
A little bit about Silk & Snow
Silk & Snow is a Canadian-owned home brand started by Albert Chow and Kenneth Mo back in 2017. The company focuses on high-quality sleep, bath, and furniture essentials that are consciously crafted. Silk & Snow mattresses are Carbon Neutral and produced locally in Canada in small batches. The brand is also committed to charitable initiatives like veritree and True North Aid.

As for the quality of their mattresses, Silk & Snow uses GOLS-certified organic latex, GOTS-certified organic cotton, and GOTS-certified wool in their composition. The brand is also OKEO-TEX certified, and their mattresses are tested by the Eco-Institut to ensure you’re not sleeping with any harsh or harmful chemicals. Reading more about Silk & Snow’s commitment to quality and giveback initiatives only intrigued me further and helped me rest easy knowing I’m supporting a brand that truly cares about making a positive impact.

Shipping and setup
We placed our order for a medium-firm Queen S&S Organic Mattress. As the brand suggested, medium-firm was the perfect “medium” for all-around combo sleepers, thanks to the addition of a quilted latex layer on top of their standard GOLS-certified latex layer.

We unexpectedly moved to a new place around the time we ordered the mattress, so I had it shipped to my parents’ home, while we finalized our new living space. The mattress shipped within the week, and we received it the next day, making the turnaround time extremely quick! Silk & Snow notes on their help center that they deliver your mattress-in-a-box right at your doorstep, so there’s no need for you to wait around for your delivery.
So once our S&S mattress magically appeared at the front door of my parents’ home, my dad shuffled the box inside, mentioning the package was very heavy. Having two pairs of hands for the job would definitely make the task easier. I employed the fun task of making the second delivery of the mattress with my partner and our friend. The seemingly daunting mission was a breeze thanks to the use of a trolley and a 4-door pickup!

We opted to place our new mattress on a slatted bed frame as per S&S’s foundation recommendations. As we sliced open the box, we were met with an envelope containing a mattress setup guide, care guide, and a handy cutting tool made specifically for gently cutting open the plastic seal enveloping the compressed mattress. As soon as I cut into the plastic, we realized we had accidentally placed the mattress upside down on our foundation! Fortunately, S&S’s Organic Mattress comes with convenient reinforced handles on the sides, making flipping the mattress right side up a straightforward two-person task.

As we rearranged our mattress, I pleasantly noticed there was no off-gassing or chemical-laden smell that new mattresses and furniture often come with. The mattress is equipped with a layer of New Zealand Joma wool for its natural fire retardant properties, and knowing this, I couldn’t detect any wool-y scent. To be honest, I smelled nothing, and trust me, I took a couple of deep, long whiffs!

Running my hand over the super-soft GOTS-certified cotton cover made me even more excited to jump into bed. Exhausted after the long day we just had, we quickly fitted our new mattress with fresh sheets and sunk into the bed as fast as we could. Though, Silk & Snow notes that it takes up to 72 hours for the mattress to fully decompress — and we definitely noticed the difference as we slept on it in the coming days.

My first impressions
On our first night, I noticed I sunk in quite a bit into the mattress. My partner reported the same, mentioning the mattress was a lot squisher than what he was used to. At this point, the mattress had only decompressed for about an hour, so we knew we weren’t experiencing the full support that this mattress could offer. After our first night of shut eye — despite the mattress not expanding to its full capacity — I had the deepest night of rest for the first time in a long time. Perhaps it was because of how tired I was, but each night I slept on the mattress, this experience remained true, even to this day.
The mattress firmed up on night two, and even more so after the 72-hour decompression period. As mentioned before, I am naturally a stomach sleeper and since sleeping on my S&S mattress, I’ve been able to get some heady rest on both my stomach and back. Even my partner, who at first felt like the mattress was too soft, has now been loving the responsive yet firm feel of this mattress.

When it comes to motion transfer, any movement on the opposite side of the bed where I sleep has been gentle and still leaves me in my comfy position of choice. This is all because of S&S’s addition of dense pocket coil springs, which are excellent at limiting motion transfer.

Though S&S states their latex mattresses do take some time to break in, I personally didn’t notice. Regardless of the decompression period, I feel like it’s ready to sleep in right out of the box. It’s comfy, offers the perfect amount of cushion, and the support only gets better with time. I know many of us take time to adjust to a new mattress (think sleeping in a hotel or at a friend’s house), but my body conformed to the mattress right away. With the S&S mattress, every sleep position feels right.
The long-term results
As someone who often wakes up throughout the night, this mattress helped me get my full nights of rest back. Even if I do wake up in the middle of the night, I find myself falling back asleep almost immediately. Upon waking, my body feels fully refreshed and ready to take on the day, though I often love to lounge on the mattress as long as I can because it’s just that blissful!

When it comes to busy schedules and unexpected moves, I haven’t had the time to get as much stretching and exercise as I normally would for my neck and shoulder tension. Despite this, sleeping on the S&S mattress left me waking up with no discomfort in these areas, and my posture has actually been looking good! Typically, without stretching, I’d be back to feeling sore and tight, but since sleeping on this latex mattress, I’ve experienced significant improvement in the way my body feels.
With me sleeping cold and my partner sleeping warm, we both felt this mattress is the perfect choice to appeal to both ends of the spectrum. It is breathable and well-ventilated as my partner didn’t wake up feeling overly warm. Silk and Snow notes that their Organic mattress is their coolest one as the latex foam and pocket coil base do not trap heat. We really felt the difference on night one!

One thing that I noticed is that the mattress teers more towards firm rather than a balance of plush and firm. The brand does state this, noting that the medium-firm mattress is closer to the lower end of the firmness scale. This makes me think that if you prefer to sleep on your side, you may benefit more from the plush mattress rather than the medium-firm. Stomach and back sleepers, however, will love the cushioned yet supportive feel of the medium-firm option!
Compared to our old mattress of the same size, the S&S Organic Mattress has my partner and I both in agreement that it makes us feel like we each have the bed to ourselves. I believe it’s thanks to the perfect balance of coils and latex that keep us in place all night. Never having slept on a latex mattress before, the S&S Organic Mattress has made a latex convert for life. I truly feel the difference having the benefit of both coils and latex in my mattress, and I cannot go back.
So, is Silk & Snow’s organic mattress worth it?
For an all-organic, nontoxic, chemical-free mattress, made with natural latex at a fair price, I’d have to answer that with a resounding YES! At its base price, the Queen S&S Organic Mattress will run you $1000, which is a fantastic price point for the quality and features the mattress offers. S&S also runs frequent sales, so be sure to keep an eye out if you’re looking to save some coin while upgrading your sleep.

If you’re not sold on how wonderful this mattress is, Silk & Snow stands proudly behind their product by offering both a 365-night trial and a 15-year warranty, so no fret if buying a mattress online is not your usual style! The S&S organic mattress is a great fit whether you’re sleeping alone or with a partner, as its premium, highly regulated materials and multiple firmness options will appeal to your needs, no matter what type of sleeper you are. I definitely see why this mattress has won multiple awards.
Considering the average person keeps their mattress for seven to ten years, I find the price well worth the investment. To this day, I continue to enjoy sleeping on my S&S Organic Mattress, and my body has been grateful to me for making the upgrade since!
